this is probably my all time favorite picture I took of The Strokes. This was shot in 2002 for NME (and was actually used for a cover) in their old rehearsal space in the Music Building on 8th Avenue and 39th Street. I love Fab lighting Albert’s cigarette, I love Nick’s posture and Nikolai’s direct stare and I love that Julian is only wearing one shoe and has pink socks on. I usually don’t like instruments in my shots but it totally works in this instance. This was also a very exciting time for the band as they were about to play their series of gigs with The White Stripes and then go on to headline the Carling Festival gigs in the UK which at the time were the biggest shows they had ever played.
